If you’re considering a divorce in Texas, but your spouse isn’t on board, you may be feeling frustrated and confused. You may be wondering what to do next. The good news is that there are options available to you.

Communicate your decision clearly

It’s important to let your spouse know that it’s not a decision you came to lightly. Let them know why you feel divorce is the best option and why there is no other way forward. Make sure they understand that while you’re willing to try to make things work, divorce is the only real option if nothing else can be done.

Try mediation or counseling

Mediation refers to a process in which a third party helps the two parties come to an agreement. This could be anything from deciding how the assets will be divided to helping decide who gets custody of the children. Counseling is also an option if both parties are willing to work on rebuilding their marriage and discussing issues that may have led to the decision for divorce. It involves talking about sensitive issues in a safe and controlled environment.

File for a contested divorce

Contested divorce refers to a divorce where the two parties disagree on certain issues. This can include division of assets, child custody and spousal support. If you and your partner cannot come to an agreement, then you may have to file for a contested divorce. This means taking the case to court and having a judge decide these issues for you.

Consider a legal separation

Legal separation is an option if you and your spouse are not ready to end the marriage but would like to live separately. This gives both parties time to work on the issues in their marriage without ending it entirely. It can also be used as a stepping stone towards divorce if the couple decides that this is still the best option.

Regardless of the option you choose, it’s important to make sure that you and your spouse are both on board with the decision. It can be a difficult and emotional process but with open communication, compromise and understanding, you can find a solution that works for both parties.
